LIMITED COMPETITION PARTICIPATION | 2002

The site is placed in the junction between two historical quarters of the city which have always been separated by the railway. From the planning point of view, the main challenge was to eliminate the barrier created by this infrastructure.

The building is arranged around a big open plaza which connects both sides of the site, Via Augusta and Carrer Sentmenat. The building is composed by four rectangles which align with the surrounding streets, but those facing Via Augusta and Carrer Sentmenat are raised above the ground to allow the connection with the plaza from both sides.

The plaza is not only a success in terms of the link between both sides of the railroad, but it also adds a great atmosphere and quality to the spaces inside the building itself.
