The proposed scheme is the result of a meticulous study of the brief and the site constraints, mainly concerning the neighbouring constructions. The building is facing south, right onto Gala Placídia square. It is shaped to relate comfortably to the surrounding buildings, until a certain height where it rises defiant in order to become a visual Landmark (in the corner of Via Augusta) as it moves away from the neighbouring constructions on all the other façades.
The chosen cladding system reflects the global concept of the building. The lower floors of the building are heavier, and it lightens as it rises narrowing its floor plan. In the same way, the bronze coloured aluminium louvers that protect the building from the sunlight also change in size and density as the building rises to become lighter.
The positioning of the stair and lift cores allows the floor plan to be absolutely open plan, thus allowing for any changes in the future use of the building.
