COMPETITION – 2ND PRIZE| OCTOBER 2006

The buildings in this Project are conceived as part of an overall scheme located in the grounds where the old Lleida fish market used to be, comprising the new Conference Centre and some remarkable public spaces.

Apart from a high quantity of housing units, the scheme includes a hotel and some commercial spaces in order to complement the services offered by the Conference Centre. One of the buildings is 22 storeys high, and it houses a 72 room hotel in the top floors. The other building is 16 storeys high, of which the firs 4 are destined to house office areas.

Both blocks are resting on a continuous pediment which covers almost the whole site. The relationship between both buildings and the Conference Centre has been carefully studied in order to guarantee the continuity of all open spaces surrounding all of them.

The 22 storey building is conformed by four prisms that climb against the central stair and lift core, and as they do, the building keeps thinning until the contrast with the rather compact volume of the Conference hall is evident.

The 16 storey block is generated in a similar way, although the result is a far more solid block aligned with the Maials St. This allows the most important parts of the building to face directly onto the gap between both towers.
